9 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SummerSlam 2024 (Results & Review)
4. World Title Match Exceeds Expectations
There were a few worried glances when WWE announced that GUNTHER would be challenging Damian Priest for the World Title at SummerSlam. No-one expressed concerns for each man's skills individually, but going heel vs. heel was an interesting choice and easily could've backfired. This just in: It bloody didn't.
If anything, GUNTHER vs. Priest exceeded expectations.
It was a bruising back-and-forth bout that might've well been match of the night. The finishing stretch, which included Finn Bálor-led story, was as hot as they come. More on that shortly. First, let's praise Priest for matching GUNTHER's strict match style and showing his chops as a main event star.
The outcome was similarly pleasing. Something feels right about GUNTHER holding a big gold belt. Do not be shocked if he's World Champ all the way up until next year's WrestleMania. The Imperium leader and lengthy title reigns go together like sun and sand.
