9 WWE Wrestlers Who Won ONLY World Championships

2. "Superstar" Billy Graham

"The man of the hour, the man with the power, too sweet to be sour," the one and only "Superstar" Billy Graham was the quintessential professional wrestler in the mid-to-late '70s.

An exceptionally-charismatic personality accompanied his massively-muscular frame, so he was an obvious choice for any wrestling company's top prize. Sure enough, Graham won the WWWF Championship from Bruno Sammartino in April of 1977, the same month he signed with the company.

Though he was a heel, Graham was a worldwide superstar, one that Toots Mondt and Vince McMahon Sr. could not afford to take the title off of. During his nine-and-a-half month reign, he felled challengers such as Mil Máscaras, Riki Choshu, and Dusty Rhodes in arenas all around the world. Finally, despite his own protestations, Graham dropped the belt to fresh new babyface Bob Backlund in 1978.

Upset by the loss, Graham left the company not long after and, despite returning for a couple of cups of coffee, never reclaimed the gold. Still, he remained one of wrestling's biggest superstars (no pun intended) for the remainder of his in-ring career.
