As it’s now January, it means that the Royal Rumble PPV is in sight (yay!). And that in turn means, we’re soon to embark on the Road to WrestleMania.

While fans are pondering just what matches will be taking place at WrestleMania 36 this April, the usually reliable WrestleVotes has an update on how things are shaping up for the Showcase of the Immortals.

Citing a WWE source with more than a decade of service under their belts, WrestleVotes is reporting that there has never been a January where so few ‘Mania matches have been tentatively pencilled in.

One match that seems a lock for the Granddaddy of Them All is Roman Reigns challenging WWE Universal Champion ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt. As for Brock Lesnar’s WWE Championship, the only backstage news on The Beast’s WrestleMania match is that he won’t be facing either Tyson Fury or Cain Velazquez.

Elsewhere, the NXT brand is expected to have a heavy presence at WrestleMania – and not just in regard to the NXT TakeOver: Houston special that takes place the night before ‘Mania. Ten male and ten female NXT superstars will be competing in the respective Royal Rumble matches later this month, and it could be that these Rumble contests will be used to set something up for WrestleMania.

Of course, the Road to WrestleMania should become at least a little clearer once the Royal Rumble PPV takes place on January 26th. After that, expect attention to turn towards Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on April 5th for WrestleMania 36.
