Chris Jericho shocked fans in Japan today by attacking Kenny Omega at NJPW's World Tag League finals (via WON).

The WWE star, who is scheduled to face Omega at next month's Wrestle Kingdom 12, ambushed his opponent after watching him claim victory in a six-man tag-team match.

Initially appearing via a pre-recorded video, Jericho emerged from behind his fellow Canadian and launched a vicious assault which ended with blood being drawn.

Helpless to the attack, Omega was eventually saved when The Young Bucks - his teammates on the night - chased his assailant away after a belated save.

At the segment's climax, Jericho grabbed a microphone and told fans that he would see them in the Tokyo Dome, which has hosted New Japan's annual January 4 show for more than 20 years.

Not quite content that his message had been heard, a stern-looking Y2J then took to Instagram, uploading a self-shot video in which he formally introduced himself to his new adversary.

Omega, who caught the headlines at last year's Wrestle Kingdom after sharing one of the promotion's greatest ever matches alongside Kazuchika Okada, has not responded to the incident personally.

But The Young Bucks' Matt Jackson told fans on Twitter that the 34-year-old was "getting taken care of".
