CM Punk: His 8 Greatest WrestleMania Moments

4. Mr. Money In The Bank - WrestleMania 24

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4zvvk_money-in-the-bank-wrestlemania-24_sport A major monkey wrench had been thrown into WWE plans when Jeff Hardy failed a drug test and was suspended for the second time under WWE's Wellness Policy. Hardy had been slated to win the Money in the Bank match at 2008's WrestleMania 24 and now, the company was left to find another option. Their choice: the very popular CM Punk, who was still thrilling audiences on ECW. With hungry young competitors such as Carlito, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, John Morrison and Mr. Kennedy all vying for the briefcase, Punk was able to trap veteran performer Chris Jericho in the rungs of a ladder and retrieve the prize, earning himself a guaranteed title opportunity at any time over the next year. The win was the culmination of hard work and sacrifice and signaled what many thought may be the changing of the guard in WWE. Unfortunately, Punk's victory over Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship the following June did little to enhance his star in the company. Sure, he was mixing it up with the likes of Batista, JBL and Chris Jericho but he was never treated with the respect or the strong booking that a champion typically gets, nor was he ever in a pay-per-view main event. In September, he dropped the title without actually competing in a match and returned to the deep, dark abyss known as the WWE midcard soon thereafter.
