Cody Rhodes' 10 Best In-Ring Rivals Post-WWE

9. Marty Scurll

Before they were "too sweeting" each other as fellow members of Bullet Club, Cody and Marty Scurll were the fiercest of in-ring rivals, starting in September 2016 in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.

Both Cody and Scurll were competitors in that year's Battle of Los Angeles tournament, and on Night 3, they went one-on-one for the first time ever. Unsurprisingly, their clash of styles made for a fun matchup that saw Scurll pull out the victory.

The American Nightmare had a chance to avenge that loss when they met in a rematch a few months later at WCPW's Loaded event in January 2017. With Rhodes' Internet Championship on the line, however, the stakes were much higher this time around. It should also be noted that, similar to his aforementioned outing against Matt Riddle, this took place following his heel turn at ROH Final Battle.

That meant Rhodes was now willing to do whatever was necessary to walk away with his title intact. No stranger to shenanigans, Scurll attempted to use his umbrella on his eventual ally, but to no avail. Cody proved he had learned a lot from their last encounter and managed to successfully retain his title.
