9. Forbidden Door 2022

Forbidden Door felt enormous when it was announced, as NJPW and AEW were set to collide in a night co-promoted by the two wrestling giants. The card was marred with injuries, but when the PPV rolled around, everyone put their bodies on the line to create a fantastic inaugural event

Minoru Suzuki had already begun to create a bond with AEW fans after matches with Jon Moxley, Samoa Joe, and Bryan Danielson, and his tag-match alongside Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara against Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, and Shot Umino was great fun. Claudio Castignoli vs Zack Sabre Jr was an absolute blast, and AEW fans got their first glimpse of Will Ospreay, who scored in a great win over Orange Cassidy to retain the IWGP United States Championship.

The night was headlined by a war between Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi for the AEW Championship, after CM Punk had to vacate his title due to needing surgery, but it was the Fatal Four-Way between NJPW's Jay White and Kazuchika Okada and AEW's Adam Cole and 'Hangman' Adam Page for the IGWP World Heavyweight Championship that stole the night (despite an unfortunately botched ending). All things considered, the first Forbidden Door was a runaway success that started a fun if disjointed annual tradition between AEW and NJPW.
