Every Edge Vs Randy Orton PPV Match Ranked From Worst To Best
4. Vengeance - 2004
The pairs first one-on-one PPV meeting was for the Intercontinental Championship, with the match taking place in the shadow of Evolution, but shining a bright light on two future World Champions and legends of the company.
Edge had just returned from injury, vowing to take down the dominant faction of Raw as Orton sat pretty with the IC strap, benefiting from his life inside the star-making stable. While his reign had been a lengthy one, Orton was often the beneficiary of Evolution interference or being a part of multi-man and stipulation matches.
While certainly no slouch between the ropes, at just 24 years of age, Orton still had a lot to learn and even more to prove. On the other side of the ring, Edge had already carved out his resume as a tag team trail blazer, but was yet to really hit his straps as the single star he would soon become.
This was the perfect showcase for them both.
With the match going nearly half an hour, one-on-one with no interference or gimmicks, it showed that Orton had what it takes to carry a contest - of length - and hold down a strong piece of storytelling and in-ring psychology. Edge too proving to the powers that be that he was capable of sustaining a singles match workload and excelling at it.
While it was Edge who won the belt on the day, it freed Orton up to take the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit just one month later.
