Former WWWF wrestler and road agent Rene Goulet has passed away. He was 86 years old.

The Cauliflower Alley Club broke the news on Wednesday, announcing that Goulet died all the way back on 25 May. Those close to him chose not to make the news public under yesterday, however, and not even WWE themselves were informed. The cause of death hasn't been disclosed.

Debuting back in 1957, Goulet was a tenured WWWF wrestler throughout the '70s and '80s, while also working for the AWA and in a number of different NWA territories. 1971 was a particularly strong year for him as he and partner Karl Gotch defeated Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler for the WWWF Tag Team Championships, holding the belts for 57 days before dropping them, and he remained an active in-ring competition for the promotion until 1986.

Goulet stuck around as a road agent until 1997, and owns the honour of being the first wrestler to ever defeat Ric Flair. In 1981, him and Andre the Giant teamed to win the competition that would eventually become NJPW's World Tag League.

We at WhatCulture.com wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Goulet's friends and family.
