Goldberg Set To Appear On Tonight's WWE SmackDown
What reception will await the new Universal Champion tonight?
WWE has announced that Goldberg is set to appear on tonight's episode of SmackDown via a new dot com update.
The news broke just hours after Goldberg defeated 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt to become a two-time Universal Champion at Super ShowDown, besting the horror movie monster in just a couple of minutes.
It was a shocking development that may have made the former WCW Champion the most controversial wrestler on the planet. Wyatt barely got going against Goldberg, mustering only a couple of pitiful Mandible Claw attempts. Yes, he kicked out of multiple Spears, but he was eventually killed off by just a single botched Jackhammer. The move looked more like a sloppy front suplex.
The popular narrative is that WWE has once again used the past to screw the future by having a 53-year-old part-timer blast through the company's biggest merch-shifter. Online, the reaction has been almost completely negative - and understandably so.
WWE's writeup teases another confrontation with Wyatt, though it also mentions Goldberg "targetting a new member of Team Blue." It's expected that a number one contender's Elimination Chamber bout will be announced with the winning meeting Bill at WrestleMania 36.
