Interesting Fact On WWE Universal Title DOMINANCE
The WWE Universal Championship's six-year life hasn't exactly been varied.
The WWE Universal Championship was born on 21 August 2016, meaning it has been active for 2,117 total days, the majority of which have been dominated by two men: Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
A statistic pointed out by Reddit user u/NYGmen9288 on Tuesday highlights the extent of Reigns and Lesnar's stranglehold on what has become WWE's top championship. Of the belt's 2,116 days of life (as of yesterday), it has spent a total of 1,393 around either Brock or Roman's waist. This works out at around 65% of its existence.
Reigns, the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, has been a title-holder for 707 cumulative days (as recognised by WWE) across two runs. Meanwhile, Lesnar has 686 recognised days across three. Roman defeated Brock at WrestleMania 38 to unify his Universal strap with the WWE Title, though the recognised lineage continues through him.
Both men are comfortably the first and second longest-reigning Universal Champions since the belt's inception. Third is Kevin Owens, who held the strap for 188 days from August 2016 to March 2017.
In recent years, at least, WWE has used the Universal Championship to re-normalise lengthy title reigns at the top of the card. Roman will pass two unbroken years as champion should he last until 30 August 2022 - a benchmark not hit by a top WWE champion since Hulk Hogan was felled by Andre the Giant in February 1988.
