Jim Ross’ 10 Greatest WWE Signings Ever

6. Kurt Angle

It doesn't take much to spot talent in an Olympic gold medalist, and Kurt Angle repeatedly told us that he won in Atlanta in 1996 with 'a broken freakin' neck'. Nevertheless, JR was instrumental in bringing Angle onto the next stage of his career.

Angle initially turned down an approach to work for the company shortly after his gold medal win, but was eventually brought in by Ross and WWE in 1998. Angle's amateur background translated very well into the professional stakes, with the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin praising Angle for how quickly he managed to pick up ring psychology and the ins and outs of the business. He debuted on the main roster at Survivor Series 1999, starting off a hasty run to the top.

Seeing Angle grow in his new line of work was a proud moment for JR, who has spoken in the past of his talent: "There aren't many wrestlers that I have known over the years that I have respected for their natural, in ring talents more than Kurt Angle. Being involved in signing Kurt into pro wrestling and seeing him grow in the early part of his professional career was a very rewarding experience for me."

Angle's time in WWE was littered with title reigns and epic matches, with him eventually earning the moniker of 'wrestling machine' because of his incredible ability between the ropes.
