Jim Ross’ 10 Greatest WWE Signings Ever
5. Edge
Having been snapped up by JR, Edge went on to have an excellent yet organic rise to main event level. The Ultimate Opportunist was keen to get noticed by WWE, and signed a developmental deal in 1997 before plugging for best friend Christian to be afforded the same opportunity. JR cast his eye over the development of both superstars during his talent relations role, after Bret Hart put in a good word for both to the company having seen them train at Stu Hart's dungeon in Calgary.
Edge was on the main roster by 1998, joined by Christian soon after. Having spent several years tag teaming with Christian, Edge carved out an incredible singles career for himself, winning a combined 11 world titles, 14 combined tag-team championships, a King of the Ring tournament win and two Money in the Bank briefcases. Edge is one of the most decorated superstars in the history of the business, and ended up inducted into the Hall of Fame 'Class of 2012' by his long time friend. Forced to retire with a persistent neck injury 2011, he recently made a miraculous return to the ring - sort of - for a ten hour long match with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 36.
