John Cena’s 10 Failures As WWE's Franchise Star

5. The Cena Curse

The Cena curse is something that many wrestlers have unfortunately been on the receiving end of. Ryback is a more recent example of a man whose monster push was derailed when he clashed with Cena. He was on the verge of becoming one of the next big things in wrestling €“ he had the look, the in-ring ability and his promo skills didn€™t matter too much when the gimmick he had only relied on him to say the same three words over and over again. Unfortunately, a heel turn and a lifeless program with Cena that he was never going to win ended what was a promising run and the €˜Big Guy€™ was left with a terrible bully gimmick before being paired with Curtis Axel in a going nowhere tag team. This is not entirely Cena€™s fault, the majority of the blame has to come down on the shoulders of Vince McMahon and WWE creative. However, when people look back on those failures they€™ll point the finger at Cena and say he could have done more; even Bray Wyatt€™s momentum seemed to take a hit after his WrestleMania and Payback defeats to Cena. Creative try far too hard to protect Cena from looking weak, but the fact is a strong clean victory over Cena can do wonders for any career €“ just look at Daniel Bryan and the demolition that was Cena€™s SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar. There are a huge number of wrestlers who have fallen to this curse, but none so much than the wrestlers in the next slide.
