In 2010, the heel stable known as Nexus burst onto the scene in explosive fashion when they interrupted a main event of Raw, completely destroyed Cena before trashing the arena and attacking ringside personnel. It was one of the most exciting endings to an episode of Raw in a long while and was the catalyst for a huge summer storyline. The group continued its onslaught on the WWE with the focus of their attacks falling on Cena, and it led to a huge 14-man tag team match in the main event of SummerSlam. It was an excellent storyline and the match itself was terrific, especially with the surprise return of Daniel Bryan, but for whatever reason, WWE decided to have Cena go over the Nexus and completely derail their momentum - they never recovered from that defeat. Recently it came to light in an addition of the Talk is Jericho that it was indeed Cenas decision to have himself go over Wade Barrett and his Nexus, despite Edge and Chris Jericho (who were in the match on Cenas team) constantly pushing for Barrett to go over and telling Cena what a poor decision that was. Cena even later admitted to them it was a mistake to do it his way, but that can only be a small consolation as none of the highly talented wrestlers in that stable ever recovered from that defeat. The Nexus could have been bigger than they were and you only have to look at The Shield and how well they have been booked to see what could have been if WWE were bolder in their decision making and less concerned about Cenas image.
