Kurt Angle’s 6 WWE SummerSlam Matches Ranked Worst To Best
4. 2003 Vs. Brock Lesnar
Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam 2003 is a rematch of that year's WrestleMania main event. These two previously met up at Vengeance when Kurt Angle captured the WWE Championship from Brock, but that was a triple threat match that also included Big Show.
It should also be noted that Angle was out of action for a few months (thanks to neck surgery) before this match. One of my all-time favourite WWE videos was produced for his comeback and it featured Coldplay's song "Clocks."
Late in this match, Kurt was trying to get Brock to tap out to his ankle lock but the ref ended up getting bumped when the hold was broken. Angle locked on the move again and got Brock to tap, but the ref was out and didn't see it.
This was the cue for Vince McMahon, who Brock had recently aligned with, to get involved. He used a chair on Angle and helped Brock regain enough composure to F5 Angle, but they failed to finish the job. Angle eventually reapplied the ankle lock for the submission win.
This was a good, lengthy match but felt to me like it failed to become the classic that these two are more than capable of. It's either that or I'm just stumped at how Brock grabbed the ropes several times during the last ankle lock and the ref didn't make Kurt break it at any point.
