John Cena could be returning to WWE screens sooner than you might think.

The Wrestling Observer is reporting that John Cena will likely return to the WWE fold in time for the promotion's 16 July edition of SmackDown.

To be clear, that episode will be the first weekly TV show the company has produced in front of a live crowd since early-March 2020. They want to make it big, and The Observer believe that's why Cena is being lined up for a blockbuster comeback.

John hasn't been quiet about the fact he'd like to make a WWE return sooner rather than later - Cena has also spoken about performing in front of fans again, so the stars could line up here.

The 16 July SmackDown will beam live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Two nights later, WWE will produce its Money In The Bank 2021 pay-per-view from Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The Observer didn't outline their thoughts on the chances of seeing Cena at MITB, but they do think he's probable for SmackDown 48 hours before it.

It's also unclear whether this would be a one off, or if Cena would kickstart a program with one of WWE's regulars. He's a busy boy in Hollywood these days, so the former may make the most sense.
