Latest Update On CM Punk's AEW Status
Will AEW pull the trigger on a CM Punk return, or will he slip into free agency?
CM Punk remains in professional wrestling limbo after blowing up at AEW's post-All Out 2022 press scrum, though AEW could conceivably pull the trigger on his return within the next few months - if they want to book him.
Dave Meltzer stated as much on Wrestling Observer Radio. "Punk might come back," he commented, adding that the former World Champion "will be available to come back if they want to use him in a couple of months."
He added, however, that this would "open up a lot of other issues." Unsurprising, given Punk's All Out brawl with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, leading to his ongoing indefinite suspension and producer Ace Steel's release from the Tony Khan-helmed promotion.
Five months have now passed since Punk's last appearance for AEW. The suspension is a factor in this, though the veteran was also injured while wrestling Jon Moxley at All Out, suffering a torn triceps. A lengthy recovery period was forecasted, though Punk has posted several Instagram photos from the gym in recent months, suggesting he is working on getting back into peak condition.
Omega and The Bucks, also suspended post-All Out, returned to action at Full Gear 2022 in November.
