Could a years-old Ring Of Honor grudge be the source of Lio Rush's recent backstage problems in WWE? 'The 24-Year-Old Piece Of Gold' certainly seems to think so.

Rush gave an exclusive interview with Fightful yesterday, during which he spoke on working with Bobby Lashley, how wrestling media has covered his current situation, and talk that he refused to pay his dues on a recent WWE tour.

When asked about a specific incident relating to Finn Balor reportedly warning him against having his wife accompanying him backstage, Lio said: "me and Finn are cool and my wife has never been an issue." He went on to explain that the source of these rumours is "someone who works for WWE who has hated me since the days when I worked for ROH, and now that they work for WWE, they're leaking false information to get me fired."

Rush added that "I have to defend myself, so that's what I've decided to do. The kind of sh*t that flies backstage is ridiculous and I'm surprised more people aren't speaking up."

It's clear from the past week's reporting that there's more to this situation than an "overconfident" young wrestler "rubbing the locker-room the wrong way," as was originally suggested. Let's hope it reaches an agreeable resolution.
