Multiple Title Changes At WWE Payback 2020

New champions crowned in the ThunderDome.

Payback Title Change

The WWE United States, Universal, and Women's Tag Team Championships all changed hands at Payback last night.

In a rare case of every single title on a PPV changing hands, all three of last night's championship matches led to new champions.

In the show's opening bout Bobby Lashley, who was again accompanied by Shelton Benjamin and MVP, defeated Apollo Crews for the United States Championship. Sinching in the Full Lashley Lock to hold the title for a second time, he was attacked after the bell by an incensed Crews who vowed to win it back.

Later in the night Sasha Banks and Bayley dropped their 2nd and 3rd belts of the past week, as they lost the Women's Tag Team Championships to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax. In what might be the company's most exhilarating finish of the year so-far, Baszler locked Banks in the Muta Lock and then Bayley in the Kirifuda Clutch simultaneously to pick up the win for her team.

Finally, in the evening's main event, the returning Roman Reigns managed to become WWE Universal Champion for a second time despite not having signed a contract with the company until midway into the match itself. After a collapsing ring spot (yep) he was able to Spear Braun Strowman to pick up the victory, seeing him regain the belt he was forced to relinquish in October 2018 after he was rediagnosed with Leukemia.

Elsewhere on the card the team of Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan defeated The IIconics, Big E beat Sheamus, Matt Riddle scored a win over Baron Corbin, Keith Lee steamrollered Randy Orton, and Dominick Mysterio scored his first win in WWE as he teamed with his father to beat Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy.
