NJPW G1 Climax 2019 Night 15 (August 7) - A BLOCK: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Will Ospreay Vs. KENTA

A red hot start between Will Ospreay and KENTA highlighted exactly why this match came during A Block’s penultimate evening rather than when points were very much still to play for.

KENTA wrestled with the sort of grace and confidence that captivated Ospreay when he was a young slip of a lad watching NOAH from the UK. The ‘Aerial Assassin’ had tweeted his reverence for the NJPW newcomer ahead of their clash - he surely earned mutual admiration from his opponent after this dynamite duel.

It was a joy to see the recent WWE escapee flit between skilful unknown quantity and veteran heel sh*thouse as he aimed fists and feet at Ospreay’s battle-worn back, neck and head. In the company of the man many consider to be the current best in the world (and despite a couple of botches that would have destroyed his resolve just six months earlier), he worked tirelessly to keep pace.

It was pace that won the day for the Junior Heavyweight Champion. His comeback strikes were too quick for KENTA, allowing him back into the match for the traditional trade of increasingly dangerous and deadly high spots. It all fed into Ospreay’s victory-sealing spree, capped off with a brutal Hidden Blade/Storm Breaker double-header for the win.
