Jey Uso originally had a different role to play at WWE SummerSlam.

With SummerSlam seemingly being a little rejigged after Seth Rollins went down injured at Saturday Night's Main Event earlier this month, it appears Jey Uso was originally scheduled for a slightly different role at WWE's annual Biggest Party of the Summer.

Speaking on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the initial SummerSlam plans called for Jey to face off against Bronson Reed in a singles match. Instead, that bout has now been advertised to take place on tonight's episode of WWE.

Of course, SummerSlam will see Uso team with Roman Reigns to take on Reed and Bron Breakker on Night 1, with plenty of rumblings that the tag contest may well end up being the main event of Saturday. The other option for the main event is CM Punk challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Previously, there was plentiful fan speculation that SummerSlam would either feature Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins, or Roman and CM Punk vs. Seth and Bron Breakker. As it stands, Rollins currently has no confirmed role on the SummerSlam card, with the Visionary suffering a knee injury against LA Knight in SNME a couple of weeks ago.

While that injury caused the match result to be changed on the fly, with Knight quickly putting Seth away with the BFT, subsequent weeks have seen plenty of rumblings that the Rollins injury is actually all a work. Or, at least, he went into Saturday Night's Main Event with a minor injury, and then an injury angle took place in order to give Seth some time off.

Other theories suggest that Seth Rollins may well cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase at SummerSlam and walk out as the new World Heavyweight Champion, with the idea of shocking fans who'd been led to believe that the 39-year-old was set for an extended absence through injury.
