John Cena’s 11 WWE SummerSlam Matches From Worst To Best

By the time of their SummerSlam 2006 bout, Edge and John Cena already had a good bit of history behind them. Not only did Edge have a successful Money in the Bank briefcase cash-in earlier in the year against Cena, but he also slapped his father just before this event. 

Even though this was in Boston and should have been a mostly pro-Cena hometown, the audience was still split. There were several signs that said "If Edge Wins We Riot" but both guys had vocal supporters and detractors.

A stipulation was added to this match that if Edge lost the match by DQ then the title would change. In spite of this, Lita kept trying to give the Rated-R Superstar foreign objects to use during the match. I'm watching this years later without much context and it feels like either Lita is trying to make Edge lose or she's just really stupid. Edge naturally kept refusing her offerings because he wanted to keep his title.

Lita was finally successful in giving him an unfair advantage when she slipped a set of brass knuckles onto Edge's hand. She was the recipient of an FU for her troubles, but Edge was able to use the knuckles without being noticed. So it worked.

Other than Lita looking like a moron, this was a great match that still holds up well after nine years.
