Ranking Every AEW World Championship Match From Worst To Best
5. Jon Moxley Vs. Lance Archer (Dynamite Anniversary Show)
When we finally got to Jon Moxley vs. Lance Archer, it proved itself to be worth the wait. There wasn't much of a need for a no disqualifications stipulation, as both men already from the brawler style, however, the additional ruling - or lack thereof - benefitted their fight immensely.
Granted, this wasn't quite on the level of their Wrestle Kingdom showdown, but it remained a great bout regardless. Tension was built between them when they brawled backstage not once, but twice before the match had even officially began. That's how you build a match involving two of your more intimidating stars.
He eventually lost the match, but AEW protected 'The Murderhawk Monster' to the best of their ability. Kicking out of a Paradigm Shift within the first 10 seconds of the bell ringing, and then surviving a second of Moxley's DDT finish, as well as escaping the Bulldog Choke showed how much AEW wanted to save Lance. That some fans screamed out that Archer was buried makes no sense at all.
You'd have to imagine Lance's time in the main event scene is far from over. He looked like a huge deal here, something that mainstream fans had seen very little of until his AEW debut. Just imagine what he could do with an Eddie Kingston or a Wardlow.
Money.
