Ranking Every Brock Lesnar SummerSlam Match - From Worst To Best
3. Brock Lesnar Vs. CM Punk (2013)
As great as Angle vs. Lesnar from 2003 was, though, it
wasn’t quite as good as the effort a decade later at SummerSlam 2013, when
Brock Lesnar faced off against CM Punk in a No Disqualification match.
While Lesnar and Punk hadn’t been directly feuding for all that long, Punk’s previous association with Paul Heyman—Lesnar’s advocate and real-life friend—gave this one-off rivalry a ton of history. And once the Punk/Heyman allegiance had disintegrated, the stage was set for Lesnar’s arrival.
Plus, as if that wasn’t enough of a backstory, this was billed as the Beast vs. the Best—a tagline that sells itself, really.
Lesnar’s overwhelming size and power became the plot around which this match was built, with the contest soon adopting something of a David vs. Goliath dynamic. And for all of Lesnar’s grappling strength, Punk’s speed and striking ability made him every bit Brock’s equal.
As time wore on, though, the no-DQ stipulation edged its way into play, with a steel chair being incorporated, as well as some shenanigans from Heyman. It was the second of these two additions that allowed Lesnar to capitalise, hitting Punk with an F5 onto the aforementioned chair and scoring the pinfall after 25 minutes.
That was enough to make this Lesnar’s longest match since returning in 2012, and perhaps the most compelling in-ring contest to feature on this list.
