5. Paige

Paige NXT Women's Champion 2013

Paige was the very first NXT Women's Champion, winning the title on 24 July 2013. Paige was the last woman standing in an eight woman tournament, overcoming Tamina Snuka and Alicia Fox before besting Emma in the final. Paige herself was seen as something approaching a revolutionary at the time, someone completely different to the rest of the female performers in WWE.

The problem Paige and her NXT Women's Championship run had was simply a lack of competition. Paige and Emma were the extent of the NXT female division at the time. Summer Rae was the major heel in the division, and those who would make up the future were still learning the ropes. Sasha Banks was involved, but this was before Sasha Banks became Sasha Banks, so to speak.

Paige was a great champion at a poor time for the division. In many ways this is fairly apt for Paige's WWE career, a revolutionary who was ahead of her time and somewhat irrelevant by the time the actual revolution came around.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
