Long-standing fan favourite Eric Young was yet again the sympathetic choice when he had a shot at Magnus in 2014, but the timing and layout of their programme was so frustratingly similar to Daniel Bryan's WWE rise that it made the whole thing feel insultingly second rate.

The win should have felt like a nice reward for years of service. Instead, it felt like the company trying to hop on a bandwagon that had long bolted.
