Ranking WWE's Empty Arena Pay Per Views From Worst To Best
11. Payback
Coming a week on the heels of SummerSlam, the revamped Payback seemed like the most pointless PPV possible, and it sort of was. The big news was Roman Reigns returning to wreck stuff and leave. He did just that, bringing an end to The Fiend’s brief title run and reclaiming the Universal Championship. Fans baulked at Roman’s latest megapush at the time - how wrong we were.
Elsewhere Keith Lee seemed destined for greatness as he bulldozed through Randy Orton, though the wheels have come off that one. Big E had a solid match with Sheamus, and his future looks brighter than his fellow former NXT champ.
Sasha Banks and Bayley proved once again that they’re just the best even in defeat to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler, dropping the tag belts in a match that sewed further seeds of dissent in the best pals.
Workrate-wise, the best match was Rollins and Murphy taking on the Mysterios. Yes, this was a continuation of an already-creaking feud, but watching young Dominick improve week by week was a joy to behold. A limp show, but little to be offended by.
