Speaking to Inside The Ropes recently, Rob Van Dam - while making sure to claim that this is not necessarily a "bad" thing, which is just as well, since himself knows of his full well of his own vast talent - has revealed that CM Punk "probably has as big of an ego as anybody I can think of that I met in the business." Van Dam also revealed that he was surprised, upon making his return to WWE following his 2006 suspension, when Punk approached him to let him know that he would imminently be conducting a team meeting to determine the identity of a thief in the locker room. Punk stressed to RVD that he wasn't the subject of the meeting; he was simply informing him out of courtesy. This surprised Van Dam, since Punk was a relatively junior member of the roster at the time.

This revelation is consistent with historic reports of Punk's perception of himself as the "locker room leader".

Cody Rhodes and Booker T once looked back with wry laughter at the time Booker threw down some garbage in defiance at being told by Punk to clean up after a show, while Kevin Owens on an old shoot interview once disclosed that Punk berated him for wrestling in a t-shirt.

Of course, Punk's eagerness to mentor young talent wasn't always something wrestlers bantered off; Powerhouse Hobbs credits him with spending his time to help him become a better performer.
