Six-Pack Match To Determine Inaugural WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Added To Backlash
The blue brand gets a grand dame!

On Tuesday's Smackdown, authority figures Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan unveiled the show's brand-new Women's Championship, and made the first official match for Backlash, the blue brand's inaugural Pay-Per-View. Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, Carmella, Natalya, Naomi, and Alexa Bliss will battle in a six-pack challenge to determine the first titleholder.
As per the rules of a six-pack challenge, two women will be legal at a time, and the first competitor to score a decision will win the match and the title. Although Shane McMahon referred to the contest as the first women's six-pack challenge in WWE history, he was forgetting the bout at Survivor Series 2001, where Trish Stratus beat Jazz, Lita, Ivory, Molly Holly, and Jacqueline to win the vacant WWE Women's Championship.
Already, the dynamic between the six women - who met in tag team action at SummerSlam - is becoming strained. Becky defeated Bliss in Smackdown's opening match while Naomi and Natalya were on guest commentary. Later in the show, Bella and Carmella were scheduled to battle, but "The Princess of Staten Island" beat the former Divas' Champion down before the match could start, turning heel.
Eva Marie is also expected to play a role in Smackdown's women's division, but her Wellness Policy suspension will preclude her from competing at Backlash.
Backlash airs at 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 11 on the WWE Network.
