The 8 Faces Of Kenny Omega
3. Best Bout Machine
Finally, the world was beginning to see what Kenny Omega always knew about himself: he was the best wrestler in the world. Kenny tore through the G1 in 2016. He put on classic after classic, to the point fans wondered how his body could not only survive the grueling tournament but also keep up the frenetic high energy pace Kenny had became famed for.
Omega's ambition had become a super power. Even as his body was battered and pushed to the limit, his ascension felt inevitable at this point. This superhuman marathon sprint through the G1 culminated with a win over Goto and booked Kenny's place in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom.
Omega vs Okada is legendary and is considered, in some circles, to be the best match ever. The 46 minute classic saw Kenny ultimately fall at the hands of the immovable IWGP Heavyweight Champion, but cemented Omega as the 'Best Bout Machine' in fans' minds.
This incarnation of Kenny saw him lose the immature flailing of the 'Cleaner' who was prone to petulance and over the top cartoony antics. In fact, Kenny dropped most of the trappings of his 'Cleaner' days. The leather dusters were gone, his trunks were replaced with tights and he had packed muscle on to his slender frame.
Kenny was still determined to win by any means necessary. However, that phrase had mutated from cheating to pushing his body to beyond human limits and punishing opponents with unmatched ferocity until they crumbled.
