The 8 Faces Of Kenny Omega
4. Leader Of The Bullet Club And Heavyweight
By the time 2016 rolled around, the 'Cleaner' had begun to resent the shadow cast this time by, then leader of the Bullet Club, AJ Styles. Despite finding the singles success and accolades he had once so intensely desired, Omega wanted more. Unlike young cherubic Kenny, the 'Cleaner' had learned a valuable lesson: what you desire, you must take.
At New Beginning 2016, Omega turned on his Leader and attacked AJ Styles. This led to the entire Club turning on Styles and ousting him from the top positions, just as they had done to Prince Devitt. Kenny seized control of Bullet Club, not because he was the most respected, but because he had become the most feared.
Always somewhat erratic and eccentric, Kenny Omega's unquenchable ambition and arrogance had transformed him in to a cutthroat villain willing to feed anyone to his monstrous ego. Kenny planted himself as leader of Bullet Club, not because he wanted the role or because he loved Bullet Club and wanted to lead it to greatness, but rather his inflated self importance would not allow anyone call themselves his leader.
This included the strict weight limitations of NJPW. Kenny shed his junior heavyweight image and kicked down the door to heavyweight. He would go on to capture the IWGP Intercontinental Title and bring his ferocious, high octane wrestling style to the, by comparison, sluggish heavyweight division. He tore his way up the hierarchy and began to enter the conversation for best in the world.
