The Truth Behind Edge's WWE Fastlane "Heel Turn"

Regular WWE SmackDown viewers will know there's more to Edge's "heel turn" than meets the eye.

Dave Meltzer has reported that Edge's "heel turn" at Fastlane on Sunday was a deliberate ploy to shake up his Universal Title bout with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37. It's also being predicted that Daniel Bryan may soon be added to the headliner (thus making it a Triple Threat).

Maybe, but maybe not.

Edge's actions at Fastlane didn't exactly scream "I'm heel now". In fact, as anyone who has closely followed SmackDown over the past few weeks could tell you, both he and Bryan have been dabbling with the dark side in promos - the pair have bickered back and forth about how 'Mania could be their final chance to seize WWE immortality.

They were prepared to do "anything it takes" to either walk into 'Mania as the champ or become Universal Champion in Tampa.

It's all very dramatic, as you'd expect, but is this really the full-blown heel turn it's being reported as? After all, it was Daniel who hit Edge with a steel chair first during Fastlane's ferocious final sprint. If anything, Edge only clocked him back out of revenge, and it seems to have been forgotten that he was booked to hit Reigns with a few shots too.

WWE also continued to hype Edge vs. Roman as part of the WrestleMania push on Raw. That could change come SmackDown this Friday - it's important to note that the 'Rated-R Superstar' wouldn't have to be heel to justify Bryan's inclusion next month though.

Again, is this the full heel turn some are reporting it as? Or, are WWE simply keen to add some edge (pun intended) to the Universal Title situation and sell the importance of being on top?

Food for thought.
