Could Jeff Hardy be joining his brother outside of AEW sooner than expected?

With Matt Hardy having now departed AEW and made a shocking return to TNA at Rebellion this past weekend, there's now a notable update on the AEW contract status of Jeff Hardy.

Upon joining AEW, Jeff's contract was lined up to finish at the same time as his brother's. The belief was that, while Matt's deal expired in March 2024, the Charismatic Enigma's contract had time added on due to injury and absence, with the younger Hardy tied to AEW through until 2025 as a result. Seemingly, that is not the case.

Via Fightful Select, as of the end of last month, Jeff Hardy's existing AEW contract has not been extended to 2025. Instead, based on what Jeff has told certain other talent, his deal is due to expire sometime in the Spring. AEW could still always add time to the star's current deal, but as of now, that's not happened.

Given that many previously believed that Jeff was tied to AEW until 2025, that obviously meant any Hardy Boyz reunion outside of AEW was off the table until next year. At present, it could be that any such reunion would now be able to take place a little sooner.

As for Matt Hardy, his AEW contract was extended by a couple of weeks through WrestleMania Week, but he's now very much a free agent. Despite that TNA Rebellion appearance - where Broken Matt dropped TNA World Champion Moose with the Twist of Fate - Hardy clarified on X that he's not signed with any promotion. Added to that, Matt's also openly talked about how he's had talks with WWE and that he hasn't ruled out signing a new contract with AEW. On that front, Hardy has had a contract offer from AEW, but he's so far decided against signing that new deal.

Where Jeff Hardy is concerned, he's been absent from AEW programming since suffering an injury against Sammy Guevara during a No DQ match on Rampage back in February.
