What A New Cody Rhodes List Would Look Like For 2022

Cody Rhodes
WWE

The Cody contract news ripple effect was rapid and follow-up remarks from Dave Meltzer added the same amount of gas as Brandi Rhodes did to that table before Cody drove Andrade through it on the December 1st edition of Dynamite.

The Wrestling Observer chief said his sources were avoiding speaking to him on it, leading him to believe people in the background were legitimately angry, or that the whole thing was an elaborate (and aren't they always with Cody Rhodes?) work.

But who's working who at this point? Is Meltzer being frozen out because it's a work, or because it's not? Is he even being frozen out at all, or is this a case of a wrestler wisely knowing how to extract the very best from a juicy scenario that needs situational secrecy to survive?

Shoot or no, it's added another wrinkle to the furrowed brows of every Dynamite viewer trying to parse what on earth is happening in The Codyverse from one week to the next. Rhodes has been heavily promoted for the 20th January edition of the show, but just two days removed from this breaking news, what could he possibly have to say about storylines that will be as captivating as even a glimpse into what we're all being permitted to believe is the real story?

And that's assuming - again to sell either the fiction or the fact - he shows up. Jim Ross' "he doesn't work here!" line about a debuting Raven at WWE Unforgiven 2000 stuck as a proto-meme. Might it be directed at the most unlikely of targets in 2022, or might the current TNT Champion take his "ball home" and his belt out on the road?
