What A New Cody Rhodes List Would Look Like For 2022

'The American Nightmare' is back on the market! Or is he? And does it matter? The world is Cody's...

Cody Rhodes is back in the news again. Have you seen this? Have you heard about this?

Of course you have. It's a Cody Rhodes story, you're on a wrestling website as you read this, and if the 'American Nightmare' remains uniformly fantastic at one specific thing in pro wrestling, it's knowing how to get the industry's media talking about him. Fightful Select had the scoop on Monday, teasing out a bombshell all day that eventually revealed itself to be Rhodes not re-signing with All Elite Wrestling following the expiration of his contract with the company in December 2021.

It was immediately the sort of headline and story that required a second's thought followed by a second thought. AEW has only just turned three years old, so while old deals expiring for Rhodes and the other Executive Vice Presidents was always a reality, the prospect of them not re-upping didn't feel like one at all. This sort of thing was maybe a prospect after a decade or so, but with the wrestlers themselves still in prime working years and the company better off for retaining the services of its DNA, the unthinkable was exactly that - not thought about.

It is then, at very least, to Cody's massive credit that he's yet again located the exact space in which to generate conversation from those as close to the situation as those nowhere near it. Speculation - at an excellent time of year for it, by the way - can again run rampant, and the fact that it ties in with his chaotic on-screen character only enhances the drama wrapped within the fiction and whatever ends up being fact.

How does this all play out in the end?
