Who REALLY Carried WWE Every Year (1985-2026)

Another joint award incoming, and a deserved split focus. The feud between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks was a big highlight for the year in 2016. Together, they clashed at 'Mania 32 with Becky Lynch for the rebranded Women's Title (bye bye, Divas belt), and that was top tier. Having Lita announce the new title was another shrewd move that added instant credibility.

A follow up singles match between Charlotte and Sasha on the 25 July Raw was epic, then they worked another winner at SummerSlam and again in the main event slot on the 3 October Raw. Going hell for leather, the natural enemies followed that up by main eventing Hell In A Cell, then had a 'Falls Count Anywhere' bout on the 28 November Raw and a 30 minute 'Iron Woman' match at Roadblock: End Of The Line in December.

2016 was the year women's wrestling arrived in WWE. Various greats like Alundra Blayze and others had been trying to put it on the map pre-Divas era for decades, but nothing had worked. By 2016, Vince McMahon was finally ready to put some steam behind the women's locker room. It was stacked with skilled workers who were only going to get better as well.

The majesty of history-making moments like HIAC and 'Mania 32 pushed the division to the forefront of WWE's weekly output. As regular foes, Flair and Banks bent over backwards (sometimes literally) to make sure they justified all of the spotlight cascading down upon them.

It didn't matter whether they were on free TV or Network PPV - Charlotte vs. Sasha ruled.
