WrestleMania 31 Spoilers: 10 Things That Won't Happen Tonight

4. A "Match Of The Year" Candidate

WrestleMania is an event that is usually good for one Match of the Year candidate each April. It is the stage on which Superstars break out their finest performances in hopes of etching their names in the history booking, immortalizing themselves. Shawn Michaels created a legacy for himself by delivering year in and year out, eventually earning the nickname of "Mr. WrestleMania." Entering this year's event, the overwhelming choice to be the best match of the evening is the ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Considering the wealth of talent in that contest, including Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan, there is ample evidence to support that belief. But a look at recent WWE history proves that the company has not delivered a truly great ladder match in years. There have been many that have stolen shows or been extremely good but none that would go on to earn "great" status. There is every reason to believe that the contest will be phenomenal, that it will easily achieve Match of the Night status and be full of high spots fans are gushing over the next morning. But a Match of the Year candidate? When it is likely to have time cut from it thanks to the glitz, glam, parlor tricks and spectacle that go into WrestleMania? Don't count on it. With nothing else looking absolutely phenomenal on paper, outside of a surprisingly great John Cena-Rusev match, WrestleMania 31 could easily go down as one of the shows not to feature a unanimous Match of the Year candidate, though that does not speak to the overall quality of the show.
