8. Zeb Coulter - Episode 92
Before he delves into his interview with Zeb, Steve sounds off about his recent podcast with John Cena, specifically his response to listeners who accused Steve of pandering to Cena. That alone is worth a listen.
But I chose this podcast because Austin had referred to Zeb (as Dutch Mantell) on numerous occasions as the guy who taught him a LOT in the early days. From ring psychology to the name Stunning Steve Austin, Zeb has had a lot of influence on the man we love, Stone Cold. We may revere him for the Attitude Era days, but Austin's foundation was developed with the likes of Brian Pillman, Shane Douglas, and Ricky Steamboat. And Zeb was the architect. "I've been hit in the head a lot with steel chairs, and you've been around a long time!" jokes Austin, as they happily endeavour to piece together the day they met in the fabled Mid-South Coliseum. Zeb is a soft-spoken character who gave Steve advice on day one, that Steve immediately put into action on day one. He strikes me as the type whose demeanour makes an impact by virtue of being wise and sure, rather than the loudest. It's a treat to hear Zeb talk about how to improve as a wrestler and how to move an audience. For those of us who have only known "Dirty Dutch" as Zeb Coulter, his most recent turn as the leader of the Real Americans is evidence enough of his talent. But now I have a much deeper appreciation for how his "wrestling mind" has contributed to countless matches that I have enjoyed over the years. And so I put hand to heart and say, "Listen to Zeb"!
