5. The Rock Bombs At Raw's Tenth Anniversary
It's unimaginable that The Rock would end up on a list of awkward promos considering he's arguably the greatest superstar on the mic of all time. But it's true. After being gone for months since Summerslam 2002, The Rock returned (via satellite) to accept his award for "Give Me The Mic." Rock had an uphill battle from the start given that the live crowd was in the old WWE The World Restaurant in New York City, and the smark New York fans were already sick of The Rock's shtick. They didn't even chant along with his "Finally, The Rock has come back..." line, which usually has audiences going crazy. Rock didn't make it any easier on himself by half-assing through his normal lines. There's a certain energy that Rock brings in his promos, and it was completely absent from this one. The fans can tell when Rock is mailing it in, and they let him have it. Fortunately, this (combined with how Rock got booed at Wrestlemania X8 and at Summerslam) led to The Rock's Hollywood Heel Turn in 2003, which was one of the best parts of the year. So there are always silver linings.
