5. Mankind
http://youtu.be/s7dBPXYowGk Mankind was always a character that was a few screws short of a toolbox, and Mick Foley and his multiple personas have experienced numerous face and heel turns throughout his WWE career. Mankind was upon his debut in the WWE a deranged, psychotic wildman that wore a leather mask and pulled his hair out every time he hit a power move in a match. That was in 1996, and over time Mankind had fallen to the wayside for the arrivals of Dude Love and Cactus Jack. In 1998 Mankind returned in a different outfit, entered a feud with the Undertaker, and began a short-lived period as Vince McMahon's wrestling stooge. During the Deadly Games Tournament for the vacant WWE Championship at Survivor Series 1998, he looked to have been the man chosen by the Chairman to win the title and bring it home for the sake of McMahon's business empire. The only man that stood in his way in the final was the Rock. Or it seemed like that for most of the contest, until Rock applied the sharpshooter to Mankind. At this point McMahon called for the bell in homage to the Montreal Screwjob a year earlier, the Rock was the victor and switched from the beloved People's Champion to the detested Corporate Champion. But, the event not only created hatred towards the Great One, but developed major crowd sympathy for Mankind, and in true Foley fashion, he cemented his face turn by being beaten to the mat. This wave of public support made Mankind a likeable folk hero among the fans, and this newfound respect from the fans led to him winning the coveted WWE Championship, a feat that he never seemed like accomplishing as a monster heel.
