WWE: 10 Greatest Babyface Turns In History

4. The Rock

http://youtu.be/ZxaD37tUQyY The Rock's turn to the Corporation in the aforementioned match with Mankind was a great shock to the crowd, as following his time with the Nation of Domination, he had fashioned a moniker of the People's Champion, with a great deal of fanfare. But, his betrayal of the people to become champion left a bitter taste in the mouth, and the brutal and underhanded victories over Mankind to regain the championship meant that he and the Corporation had a date with Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XV. When the whole group could not prevent Austin from taking back the title, Rock would eventually get a rematch at Austin with Corporation member Shane McMahon as the referee, so his victory in that match was assured. That was until McMahon smacked the Rock across the face with the title belt, which contributed towards costing him the victory. This angered the Great One, and eventually his bad-mouthing of the incompetence of Shane McMahon won support from the audience, and while Shane turned to the Undertaker and Triple H to lead his new faction, the Rock was once again the People's Champion. The Rock would remain one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster until a heel turn towards the end of his initial tenure at the company in 2003. The Rock was an integral component of the Attitude Era, and a great deal of that was down to the immense reaction he would get from the crowd for laying the Smackdown for their entertainment.
