13. Vs. John Cena (WWE TLC; December 13, 2009)
WWE.comIn October 2009, Sheamus arrived on Raw with an agenda: to dominate everyone who stepped foot in his path of destruction. One night removed from Survivor Series, he won an over-the-top-rope Battle Royal to become the new No. 1 Contender to the WWE Championship at WWE TLC. Given that his opponent was John Cena, no one figured that Sheamus would come out on the winning end. Besides, Cena has the tendency to overcome the odds and slay all monster heels (see: The Great Khali, Umaga, etc.). Sheamus decimated everyone from Cena to Santino Marella to even Mark Cuban on the road to TLC, yet fans still didn't see him as a threat to Cena's title reign. That all changed at TLC when Sheamus gave Cena the fight of his life, proving his worth against the face of the company. With it being a Tables match, both individuals struggled to put the other away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjLyaog5Wm0 At last, Cena had Sheamus right where he wanted him: on the top turnbuckle, ready to deliver a superplex to him that would send him spiraling through the table below. The rookie Sheamus had Cena all figured out, however, countering the maneuver and shoving Cena through the table for the shocking upset. The live crowd was stunned silent by what they had just witnessed. Only one individual had won the WWE Championship quicker than The Celtic Warrior, and that man's name was Brock Lesnar.
