WWE 2005 PPVs From Worst To Best

5. SummerSlam

The Good: SummerSlam 2005 had a real big event feel to it, which is as it should be, really. Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero had a damn fine, risky ladder match. Yes, the storyline was stupid, but you cannot fault the action and effort of both men. John Cena and Chris Jericho also had a great match, Y2J's second last before going on a long hiatus in order to focus on his music career. Then there's Hulk Hogan versus Shawn Michaels. We all know the story by now: Michaels, peeved at having to do the job without Hulk returning the favour, decided to completely oversell his offense, turning the match into a spectacle. It wasn't a great match, but it was completely captivating. The Bad: Eugene versus Kurt Angle was a waste of Angle, who was having a sensation year between-the-ropes. JBL's World Heavyweight Championship challenge was a washout. There have been stories of JBL refusing to full cooperate with Batista during their 2005 series and, on the evidence of this match, it's easy to believe they could be true. Matt Hardy must have wondered why he even bothered coming back to the company after being pounded like a jobber inside five minutes. The referee stoppage finish was an insult. The Rest: Why wasn't Triple H involved on the show, huh? Well, believe it or not, The Game voluntarily took himself off of television and missed the PPV in order to freshen up his character.
