WWE: 6 Examples Of The Legacy Left By WWE's ECW

1. CM Punk

Whether you love him or hate him and regardless of his current status when it comes to the WWE, there is absolutely no doubt that CM Punk has made a massive impact in the world of professional wrestling. He has left a mark on sports entertainment and has carved a legacy the likes of which are only reserved for a select few. And there is only one reason why he is where he is today. WWECW. CM Punk himself has stated this on many occasions in many interviews. Although he did become part of the WWE developmental system at the time, the management never considered him to be anything more than an Independent wrestler. And it was only through the rebirth of ECW and the insistence of Paul Heyman that this guy should be part of the new roster is why we all got to experience the moments he has brought to us during his tenure with the WWE. The Second City Saint debuted in ECW on August 1st, 2006 and the minute he walked through the curtain he not only had the crowd behind him but showed that he was here to make a statement. And by the time Survivor Series came along, a mere 3 and a half months later, fans were chanting his name above bonafide legends D-Generation X and the Hardy Boys. That's right, he was more over than arguably two of the most popular teams of all time. After winning his first ECW Championship in 2007 the rest is history. Multiple title reigns, including his now infamous 434 consecutive days as WWE Champion. Legendary promos and explosive pipe bombs, show stealing performances, a merchandising machine and a certified future Hall of Fame inductee. All thanks to the rebirth of extreme. Now if the examples I have pointed out today are not a legacy to be proud of, then I honestly think you will never be satisfied with whatever the McMahon conglomerate decides to do in the future. And since the WWE Network has announced it will showcase every facet of ECW as part of its programming, including the now defunct WWECW revival, I'd advise any true wrestling fan to revisit the moment when the WWE took it to the extreme. Not only might you be pleasantly surprised, but you may even come to appreciate the effort that was put it by everyone involved. ECW for Life

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
