WWE: 6 Reasons Why Seth Rollins Shouldn't Have Turned Heel
4. Adult Males Liked The Group
There are very few acts in WWE that the majority of fans can rally around. In particular, the key demographic of adult males fans have been increasingly hard to please. They dont like WWE's offering of top babyfaces. They dislike Sheamus, and they downright hate John Cena. With the departure of CM Punk earlier this year, that leaves very few cool acts in the company for male fans to get behind. Because of that, many of these hardcore fans tend to latch onto acts like Bray Wyatt, Cesaro and Wade Barrett who are meant to be heels. But The Shield? They were getting great reactions from just about everyone. Fans were dressing up as them, and you didnt hear Lets go Shield! Shield Sucks! dueling chants like fans do for Cena. On a show with a short man in a bull costume, and where the announcers are obnoxiously unfunny, and with a man fighting with a self-aware sock on his hand, and the top star in the company handing out neon green bath towels to the crowd, WWE desperately needs a few cool acts to not turn off their adult male fans. Without The Shield, WWE is minus one of those cool acts, and thats not something they can really afford to do at this point.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
