5. He Had A Role In The Montreal Screwjob

Triple H has always been business first, business last. So when Vince McMahon was dealing with how to write Bret Hart off of WWE programming as The Hitman was making the jump to rival WCW back in 1997, the boss turned to Hunter and Shawn Michaels for advice. And The Game was only happy to oblige. "F**k him. If he won't do business, you do business for him." While this definitely did not endear Hunter to any of the WWE faithful during that time, the truth is that he did not do it for them. And I for one believe he did not do it because he had a grudge against The Hitman. For Triple H, the situation that led to the Montreal Screwjob was not personal. It was just business. Bret was one of the most popular Superstars in WWE history, he came from a family of wrestlers who loved the industry and brought respect to every promotion they were ever affiliated with. By all rights, The Hitman was a stand-up guy who had been a good WWE employee that both fans and his peers greatly admired. And those that loved him felt he did not deserve what happened in Montreal. But someone had to be there when the tough decision was being made. And that someone was Triple H. I feel that this moment helped Hunter's WWE career in the long term. I believe that when he chose to support Vince that he was choosing to support the company. The fact is that no one is bigger than the business and Hunter was smart enough to know this long before he was dubbed the Cerebral Assassin and working in main event matches. It may not have been a popular move but it was the smart move, both for WWE and Triple H's career.
