WWE Cutting Pay For Producers & Referees

Another cost-cutting measure comes to WWE.

WWE's efforts to cut costs during the ongoing global health crisis have continued with this weekend's news that the promotion is cutting pay for producers and referees by as much as 20%.

Dave Meltzer broke this story during Wrestling Observer Radio on Saturday night and PWInsider followed up with corroboration, stating that the individuals affected by the decision were informed of the salary reductions over the weekend.

The current situation has seen WWE make broad talent cuts across the board. This began on 15 April, when the promotion's Black Wednesday measures saw dozens of wrestlers and other staff members either released or furloughed, with names like Nigel McGuinness still trickling through as recently as last week.

As pointed out on several occasions, the promotion still stood to make a record-breaking profit in 2020 without trimming the personnel and their wages from the payroll.

An interesting facet of this is a previous Meltzer report stating that if wrestlers are asked to take a pay cut, the terms of their WWE contracts allow them to become free agents, thus freeing them to negotiate deals with other groups. There's no word on whether or not this applies to the referees and producers.
