WWE Drops HUGE Cody Rhodes Hints On WWE Raw

Former AEW star Cody Rhodes wasn't on WWE Raw, BUT...

Cody Rhodes Seth Rollins
WWE/AEW

Cody Rhodes didn't end up appearing on last night's episode of WWE Raw, despite heavy speculation linking him to a comeback on the show, though the promotion teased his return following the main event.

Seth Rollins was wrestling (former?) tag team partner Kevin Owens for the chance to replace him at WrestleMania 38, where Owens is due to host the returning 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin on the KO Show. When Rollins failed, leaving him without a 'Mania spot in kayfabe, announcer Cory Graves dropped a couple of nudge-nudge-wink-wink lines:-

"Seth Rollins WrestleMania hopes and dreams were dashed tonight!"
"His vision has turned into a nightmare!"

The first quote references Rhodes' old 'Dashing' character in WWE as well as his father, 'The American Dream' Dusty Rhodes, while the second is a nod to Cody's own 'American Nightmare' nickname.

Cody has been heavily-linked to a WrestleMania 38 match with Rollins since rumours of a WWE comeback emerged in the wake of his AEW departure last month. Per Dave Meltzer, the bout is still listed on the internal card for 2/3 April.

There is currently no indication that WWE and Rhodes have come to terms on a contract agreement. Now, with just two episodes of Raw to go before 'Mania, the promotion is running out of time if it wants to get something inked before the biggest show of the year. Last night's commentary certainly suggested that WWE wants you to think Cody is coming in, though.
