After plentiful rumblings and speculation, WWE has finally moved to announce the second-ever Evolution PLE for this coming July.

Last night's Saturday Night's Main Event not only saw the next SNME confirmed for July 12 - the same day as AEW All In 2025 - but also Evolution 2 for Sunday, July 13. Both shows will take place at Atlanta, Georgia's State Farm Arena. Likewise, NXT Great American Bash will take place that same weekend, although a date or location has yet to be revealed as of yet.

The previous Evolution took place nearly seven years ago, emanating from New York's famed Nassau Coliseum back in October 2018. Of course, Evolution is an all-female event, allowing WWE's women's roster to fully take centre-stage.

Where the first Evolution is concerned, that was headlined by Ronda Rousey successfully defending the WWE Raw Women's Championship against Nikki Bella. Other matches saw Becky Lynch retain the SmackDown Women's Title against Charlotte Flair in a Last Woman Standing bout, Shayna Baszler beat Kairi Sane to become the NXT Women's Champion, Toni Storm won the 2018 Mae Young Classic by besting IYO SKY, Sasha Banks teamed with Bayley and Natalya in a win over the Riott Squad, and Trish Stratus and Lita beat Mickie James and Alicia Fox. Elsewhere, a 20-woman Battle Royal allowed modern-day talents to mix it up with legends like Molly Holly, Alundra Blayze, Ivory, Torrie Wilson, and Michelle McCool, while a pre-show dark match had Rhea Ripley defend the NXT UK Women's Title against Dakota Kai.

What To Expect From Evolution 2

While Evolution 2018 was a chance for WWE's women's roster to stand tall with their own PLE, Evolution 2 sees a WWE landscape with an even more stacked roster than back then.

Across Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, WWE's female ranks are overflowing with hugely talented performers these days. Not to mention, there's the intriguing prospect of whether WWE's working relationships with TNA, NOAH, and the recently acquired AAA may see talents from those companies having a role to play.

As for those names of yesteryear, many fans have long clamoured for AJ Lee to make some sort of WWE return, and Evolution 2 would offer up a perfect opportunity for that. Then, the likes of Mickie James and Michelle McCool are part of WWE thanks to LFG, and some of the more recent names to sign WWE Legends deals include Victoria and Kelly Kelly. And who knows, maybe the company can somehow strike an agreement with Ronda Rousey for some sort of unlikely return... although those chances would seem slim.

The point being, there are so many names of the past who WWE could bring in for a nice spot at Evolution 2 to complement its hugely impressive current-day stars.

Either way, Evolution 2 is long, long overdue, and here's hoping WWE puts together something special when July 13 rolls around.
